Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) represent the application of computers to the design and manufacture of tool and part components. Engineers using CAD software create precise engineering drawings and detailed numeric data. The CAD information is then combined with CAM procedures through shared databases. This software generates an image, called a "toolpath", that defines the path the tool will travel to cut the material. CAM software develops computer programs to control CNC turning centers, machining centers, EDMs and grinding centers. Dura-Metal engineers use AUTOCAD and CADKEY software for CAD work. Our machine tool code for CAM comes from the ESPRIT software package.
